Nick Francis
BCOM CA

Nick began his career with a mid-tier Auckland city practice. He then travelled to Europe, gaining corporate experience as Financial Controller with a large London-based company. After 4 years he returned to Auckland, worked with an established chartered accountancy firm and a short time later set-up his own practice.

Early in 1995 Nick merged his interests with MGI Auckland and was appointed Principal in 1997. In 2001 he stepped into the role of Managing Director. Nick has a keen determination to meet the demands and opportunities of new millenium business and investment. He has a very diverse portfolio of clients whose business interests range from construction, import/export and manufacturing to professional services and motor vehicle retail. He also has a specialised understanding of Trusts and Estate Planning.

In 2007 nick completed five years as the Australasian Area representative on the International Committee of MGI.

Doug Wilson
FCA

Doug Wilson joined the practice in 1981, after 10 years in the commercial environment both in New Zealand and overseas. His client base has developed into a wide-ranging portfolio of clients from those in the primary sector with specialised interest in forestry and farming to others in finance, information technology, merchandising and aviation. His responsibilities include the supervision of assurance assignments undertaken by the firm.

Doug has been honoured with a Fellowship of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand in recognition of his study of industrial and labour relations in New Zealand's deregulated economy.

Jill Howard
BBS CA

Beginning her career in the volatile and memorable year of 1987, Jill has a diverse range of experience in New Zealand, Australia and Japan. Her understanding of taxation and accounting practices in New Zealand and abroad is of considerable value as the scope of global markets and international economy impacts on local businesses.

Jill's focus is on accounting procedures, trouble shooting, systems applications, taxation compliance and innovation for a broad portfolio of clients ranging from sole traders to large businesses and subsidies of foreign corporations. She has a special interest in insurance and financial planning. Jill's specific areas of expertise include tax planning, New Zealand and Australia cross border taxation issues, trusts, business structures and GST and other indirect tax compliance.

Associates

Rachel Easton
BCOM BSC CA

After 7 years with a 'Big Four' firm in Auckland, Rachel joined MGI Auckland. Her background is in working with high net worth individuals, providing taxation and accounting advice with respect to investment structure, Trust formation and Estate planning.

Rachel is currently involved in providing accounting and taxation services to a wide range of SMEs and continues to have an interest in taxation, particularly international tax matters. Rachel is responsible for managing client workflow to ensure client expectations and deadlines are met. She also provides technical accounting and taxation support on many client assignments.

Consultants

Grant Raynor
NCB NDA CA

Grant originates from the Waikato where he worked for 4 years with the financial team of Environment Waikato. In 1994 he re-located to Auckland to join a chartered accountancy practice. Appointed to the position of practice manager, Grant was responsible for business development, corporate recovery and management consultancy services to a mixed range of small to medium sized enterprises.

In 2001, Grant merged his client base with MGI Auckland and became an Associate of the firm in 2003. Two years later he was appointed Principal. Grant's special focus is on business development and management consultancy - including holdng a number of directorships and involvement on client's business advisory boards.

With his specific interest in Business Transition surrounding the release of the MGI NZ Private & Family Business Survey 2007, in 2008 Grant developed and launched a boutique business transition & corporate finance practice to assist business owners to become 'Investor Ready'. Grant has also contributed to a number of articles in NZ's leading Business daily on the specialist subject of business transition, or succession planning.

Peter Wilson
CA ACCM ANZIM

Forty years after founding the practice in 1963, Peter Wilson has moved to the emeritus role of Consultant. With his acknowledged expertise and wide-ranging experience in commercial practice, financial management, business strategy and taxation, Peter retains a valued and active role in the practice. He is well known and highly regarded for his entrepreneurial flair in business and community organisations, both locally and internationally.

For many years Peter has been at the forefront of the firm's international affiliations, first as Chairman of MGI Australasia, then as world-wide Chairman of the MGI group.

Manager

Tim Talbot
BCOM CA

Tim has over 25 years' experience in chartered accountancy and business advisory services. Before moving to Auckland from Canterbury in 1987 to join one of the top five Auckland firms, Tim was a Principal in a 4-partner practice in Christchurch. In 1992 he established his own practice, subsequently merging with a 3-partner practice.

Since joining MGI Auckland in 2000, Tim has been involved in a number of challenging and interesting projects. He has a wide range of experience and particular interest in:

  • Establising financial management reporting systems.
  • Assisting in the acquisition or disposal of businesses, including share and business valuations.
  • Preparing forecasts and strategic plans, including feasibility studies in start-up situations.
  • Assisting with restructuring and refinancing initiatives.
  • Providing assistance in retirement and investment planning.
  • Assisting with 'one-off' projects such as tax audits, amalgamations and international tax issues.
